Aviation is at an exciting point in history where technological advancements and other innovations are opening many new frontiers. This will lead to aircraft being used increasingly to deliver social and economic benefits, in addition to those generated by transport of passengers and cargo.

Farmers will produce higher yields with the help of drones that can monitor the health of crops and the moisture levels of the soil.  Villages in remote areas will connect to the Internet through aircraft deployed in higher airspace and will use it to receive virtual health services and to educate the next generation.  Lives will be saved because disaster response times will be reduced through a smart, self-healing, supply-chain system that has more aviation options to get from point A to point B.

While delivering on those visions alone would be a great leap forward for the sector, what is truly exciting is that, along the way, the aviation community will create an ecosystem in which all States will have achieved the ability to develop, regulate, deploy and operate innovations in aviation.  This democratization of the evolution of aviation will maximize the number of people across the world working on improving the services that aviation provides.

One of the first things that needs to be done is to create a space that allows as many aviation enthusiasts as possible to connect and collaborate.  A place where ideas can be shared, and knowledge can be transferred.

While in the past the physical distance between like minds was at times too expensive to overcome, immersive technologies such as virtual and augmented reality provide a digital world where the needed space can be created and accessed by almost anyone.
